How To Do Self Hypnosis

As the name implies self hypnosis is a kind of hypnosis where the person hypnotizes their self. At this point the majority of people know about the all the positive benefits that hypnosis offers and self hypnosis offers all those same pluses but with the added bonus of being able to be in complete control of the situation.

As is the case with hypnosis, self hypnosis can be used to aid weight loss, smoking cessation, sleep, relaxation, confidence or achieve almost any goal a person desires.

In this article though we will be looking at using self hypnosis for relaxation. Employing the nine points I will provide you can learn self hypnosis and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. Prior to starting however I would like to mention that hypnosis isn’t the mystical practice some believe it to be. While you are hypnotized you will still be able to hear anything going on around you and most people remember everything that goes on during a hypnosis session. Instead expect to feel loose and relaxed.

Now we can begin the self hypnosis session.

1. Find a quiet room where you can either sit or lie down comfortably. Keep your body as straight as possible to allow for proper circulation. Also make sure that you won’t be disturbed for about thirty minutes.

2. Shut your eyes and count down as you take ten slow, deep breaths. Breathe in through your nostrils and breathe out through slightly pursed lips.

3. Allow yourself to feel any aches in your body. Starting with the tips of your toes and slowly travelling up to the crown of your head imagine every part of your body becoming lighter and lighter. Go from your feet up to your ankles, then your calves and shins, knees and so on.

You may feel a tingling sensation in the body part you are thinking of, don’t worry this is perfectly normal.

4. Now your body will feel completely relaxed. Take ten more slow, deep breaths as you did before and appreciate just how loose and relaxed your body feels.

5. Start to picture yourself (either first or third person is fine, whatever comes naturally) lying on a big, fluffy cloud. There is nothing else around you. Enjoy how content and snug you are on this fluffy cloud as it begins to descend gradually downwards. After a minute or so of descending down the cloud gently halts and the prevailing darkness starts to transform into your ideal relaxing place. It might be the beach, the very peak of a mountain or wherever else you wish.

6. Get yourself off the cloud and stroll into this magnificently peaceful place you have created. Experience everything there is to experience about your relaxing location. Feel the ground beneath your feet, the gentle wind in the air and the temperature of the location.

7. While you are taking pleasure from this soothing place declare to yourself just how relaxed you feel. Reiterate positive affirmations like “I am relaxed and I feel great”. You might also include other affirmations afterwards to help achieve other goals you have. For instance if you wish to quit smoking you can use the affirmation “I am a non smoker”.

8. When you feel ready to end the self hypnosis go back to your cloud and allow it to take you up and away.

9. Count backwards from ten to one. As you do so begin to stretch out your muscles carefully until you get to one where you can gradually begin to open your eyes.

You have now performed self hypnosis. As with most skills, with self hypnosis, you’ll only get better with practice so keeping doing this exercise a few times. When you have got the hang of it you could then search for more self hypnosis scripts on the web or possibly even buy a course online. If you do decide to purchase a self hypnosis programme do look into the people behind the course thoroughly. Make sure they are a qualified hypnotist and have experience recording audio.
