NLP Review As a certified health coach and certified hypnotherapist using NLP techniques in my practice with my weight loss clients, I found Ms. Gibson’s straightforward descriptions and applications of NLP very refreshing. I appreciated the inserts from other professionals as well as their experiences of understanding and utilizing this process. This Book Gives Me Hope I’ve read some things on NLP during the past few years and what I like about “The Complete Guide to Understanding and Using NLP” is that it is comprehensive and easy to understand. The book can help readers create a new awareness of and importance regarding communication skills and observational skills. “The map is not the territory” was revealing to me: This book helped me confront my assumptions and perceptions of my limitations. I’ve been walking around thinking my limitations are a fact, but I see that certain issues are really a lack of confidence and self-worth, which is perspective, not fact. “Failure is feedback, not a sum total of who you are” was eye-opening also. I would have liked a concise definition of NLP in one place, in a few sentences and in the glossary. If someone were to ask me what NLP was, I would say, “It is a neurolinguistic program that can help you create new patterns and achieve excellence.” I would be partially correct. NLP can help eliminate unwanted behaviors by aligning, associating and visualizng, not wishing, forgeting about, agonizing or struggling over major life issues. Gibson describes what NLP is, why it’s important, the benefits, how to use NLP and how to incorpoate NLP into our personal and professional lives. She makes a compelling case for NLPs use in business, education, even parenting and accomplishing goals. In fact, if you are embarking upon a personal goal setting plan, this is the book to consult. It is not just another self-help book, but a tangible guide to getting true results. I plan on keeping this book close at hand and incorporating NLP into my personal and professional life. The best part of this book were the exercises and case studies. There is a lot to digest in this book and you will want to take a few months or year to incorporate many of the practical tips into your life. This book gives me great hope and excitement!
